July 25, 2017 MTC
I woke up this morning singing The Olive Tree. And that pretty well
sums up the past week. I've probably spent about as much time singing,
whether in class or just randomly, as I have studying.
Elder Moffett and I have been made the Zone Leaders until we leave
next week. I had no idea Zone Leaders did so much. We had to wake up
early to go to a 6:30am branch council meeting and we have to conduct
Zone prayer every night. Also, we have had to organize all four of the
elders quorum meetings for Sunday, and it's only Tuesday. But
it's been an amazing experience. Our Zone is so amazing and receptive
to the Spirit.
Last Tuesday we had a Devotional by Elder Koelliker and his wife. They
both had such amazing insights that I was glad I took my iPad instead
of my notebook, I couldn't have written fast enough. Also, I took all
my notes on Gospel Library so I'll have them forever now. They talked
about so many things from how music can touch people in a way that
nothing else can, to having the best guides with the Holy Ghost and
Jesus Christ. The special musical number was also very special to me
because a Sister sang To Hie to Kolob from the purple book that I have
at home. It was so powerful it made me look at the song in a way that
I hadn't before.
We had one of my roommates, Elder Clark, who was in bed for a couple
of days. Turns out he caught a parasite a couple of weeks before he
came into the MTC. They pumped hm full of antibiotics and Gatorade, so
he's back to normal now. I love it here, everything here is truly
inspired, from who is in our district to which branch we are in.
Something I forgot to mention last week, remember my old friend, Dylan
Roberts, from elementary school? Well he was my Zone Leader last week
so we had a chance to catch up and reconnect. It was a really cool
experience. I've also seen Elder Sarri, I just finished talking to him
actually, and Elder Housekeeper from Oregon. And I ran into Elder
Southwick earlier last week.
So another cool thing that I've been able to get done here was getting
my Quad and hymnbook embossed with my name. It looks so cool! I'll
send a picture along. I had a laugh with one of the Elders in my
district a few days ago. Well in reality a lot of what our whole
district does, especially the Elders, is laugh at each other. All 15
of us have really become a big family. So I was talking to Elder
Andreasen, one of the members of the tripanionship, about what we were
studying. He had started reading Jesus the Christ and was telling me
that it was like reading a dictionary without the definitions. Then he
challenged me to read it out loud and stop when I stopped knowing what
it was saying. He walked away after I read three pages without a
pause, so I must've gone longer than he had. But he was right, I've
been reading it, I'm only on page 12 or so, and it is like reading a
dictionary. But it's such an amazing book that I already know I'm
going to love it.
The spirit is so strong in this place that it's present in everything
we do. I love it here.
