Walking and More Walking August 21, 2017

Hey all,

This week has been filled with so many cool experiences. Elder Stafford and I got to go down to Fort McHenry last Monday which was so cool!! We didn't go inside the fort because we didn't feel like paying for only being able to go in for 5 minutes but, we got to walk around and look at the bay and all the exhibits inside, which were awesome!! There's so much history in this city and most people don't even know about it.

We also had Zone Conference this past Wednesday, which was amazing!! President Christiansen is such a wealth of knowledge that it amazes me. I can have a one minute conversation with him and I learn something new, so imagine him instructing us for over an hour!!!! He covered so much material in such a short amount of time!! Then Sister Christiansen instructed. She's so amazing too! You can just tell by looking at her that she truly loves all of us individually, President Christiansen too, so her instruction was incredible too!! The Assistants to the President, the Zone Leaders, and the Sister Training Leaders all instructed too and that was very informative as well.

The People here are really cool too, some of them are a little rough around the edges but they aren't bad people. The members are so strong too! We've had the pleasure of meeting with some of the recent converts and it's been so much fun! We meet with one brother, Hank, who is so smart!! He's writing a book about the Mexican American War I believe. He's a cardiologist but sadly he's been out of work for a while because he's been plagued with cancer, but he sure doesn't let that slow him down. He loves the missionaries so much and tries to help us in any way that he can. We've also been meeting with a Sister named Mary Jones, I think I've mentioned her before, awesome lady, loves to talk, for some reason she calls me Eyes. And seeing them all at church is great as well because it just adds to the spirit that is already there.

I decided that I needed to challenge myself a bit more with my personal studying. So I made a goal yesterday to read the whole Old Testament by the end of my mission, outside of my normal personal study hour. That means reading it on the buses, on the train, in the evenings before I go to bed, or if I can't sleep. It'll be difficult but I am going to do it. I'm just grateful that I'm not doing it in another language.

I'm loving it out here and I can't wait to see what this week holds.
