Hey everyone,
This week blazed by, and yet the beginning feels like it was months ago. We had Zone Conference on Wednesday. It was all about the Gathering of Israel and our foreordained role in it. Just some really awesome stuff, I learned a lot.
Thursday we were planning, when the Zone Leaders called and said that we were going to go on exchanges that day. So after weekly planning, they dropped Elder Kennedy off down here with me while Elder Nelson whisked Elder Mitchell away to Ellicott City. Elder Kennedy came out with me, and he actually served in Savage Mill a year ago, so it was fun for him to see how the area has changed, or stayed the same. He's super fun and we got along great, we found a couple of interesting people, including one who was slightly frustrating for us. We started talking to him and he kept asking questions that could all be answered by reading the Book of Mormon and praying about it. We introduced it to him and he took one and kept asking the questions. The frustrating part was that he didn't seem to believe us when we told him that he was holding the answers in his hands. But he said he'd read it and call us if he had any questions.
Friday we had kind of a funny experience, but it's only funny after I tell you what the Sisters said during Correlation Saturday morning. The Sisters were giving us their weekly report, and they told all of us about how a lady walked up to them and asked if they were the missionaries, then proceeded to tell them she wants to get baptized. Now let's contrast this with what happened to Elder Mitchell on our walk home Friday night. We said hi to a guy as he walked past, and he asked us if we were the missionaries. When we said yes, he said, "Good good, look Imma be honest with you, that book is of the Devil." And that describes the next 20 minutes. It honestly was sad to see someone so misguided, although it was a testimony builder for me, because every question he asked, a doctrine that we teach popped into my head and I realized that the Gospel really does cover any base imaginable.
And then, of course, General Conference. All the talks were amazing, but I wanted to highlight Elder Holland's talk on Sunday Morning. Florence was able to come to the Sunday Morning session and watched it with Brother Tobey, the Sisters, and us. We could tell that she was loving all the talks, she was even taking notes, how awesome is that?! But after Elder Holland's talk, she just sat there for a second and said, "Wow." I was trying not to jump for joy because she came to the best session she could've come to for her needs. We also had a lesson on the 5 main points of the Gospel with her in Friday and it was awesome to see the growth she's made since I met her.
Love you all,
Elder Howell
